Reflection T3W4: Cyber Addiction

Dear Cyber Kids,

I would like to share my personal experience on Cyber Addiction. For the past few weeks, I have been playing a game called “Waka-Waka”on the facebook, an improvised version of Pac-man. I have always enjoyed playing Pac-man since I was young. Soon, I was addicted to the game unknowingly.Negative behaviours such as spending too much time on the game and possessing the urge to play the game soon surfaced. My ultimate goal is to be the first on the score board. However after about a week, I realised that something was amiss. I wasn’t spending enough time with my family members. I began to reflect on the purpose of playing the game and how it has affected my daily routine. I came to understand the importance of having a balanced lifestyle and spending time with my family members. Now, I'll only play the game if I've completed my work and limit myself to at most 30 minutes of gaming every day.

That’s my story. What about yours? Share your experience on computer gaming and how you tried/ will be trying to overcome Cyber Addiction. Do make use of the following questions for your reflection.

What is your favourite computer game?

How many hours a day do you spend on playing computer games?

How has it affected your daily routine?

What can you do to prevent Cyber Addiction? What advice would you give to your friend who is a game addict?

(The above posting is from the Cyberwellness team)

Journal Writing T3W3 : Effects of Preventive Measures on Pupils

Hi Everyone,

Since we returned to school two weeks ago, we have to take our temperature twice a day. Some of the pupils could not return to school because they were on leave of absence. Some of our CCA and other activities have been cancelled or postponed. In this week's reflection, I would like you to discuss how all these have affected you.

I have listed some questions below to help you with your reflection:
1. What do you think of the school's preventive measures for H1N1 such as temperature-taking, no assembly in the hall, cancellation of remedial lessons, CCA and other activities?
2. Which activities have affected you?
3. How has the cancellation of these activities affect you in your learning?
4. Do you think the school is less interesting now? Why?
5. Are you relationship with your friends and teachers affected? If 'yes', in what way/s?
6. What do you do with the extra time you have now?
7. Are you activities outside school affected?

Stay healthy!

Motivational Trip - East Coast Park

Hi everyone,

I hope you have enjoyed yesterday's trip to East Coast Park. Although it was raining at the beginning, I am glad that you did not let that dampen your spirit. If you carry on with that attitude, I am sure that all of you will do well for your PSLE. Meanwhile, do make use of this June holiday to revise your work so that you will be ready for the challenges ahead of you. Don't forget to have enough rest and play too. Take care of yourself! See you next term!

Long-awaited photos of the Science Centre Trip

Hi everyone,

Remember our learning journey to the Science Centre on 28 April 2009 where we learned more about the ecosystem. It was raining that day so we could not go to the eco-pond to get samples of pond life. Nevertheless, Miss Hazel, the lab assistant brought up a pail of pond water which contained plenty of organisms for all of you to examine under the microscope. It was an enlightening experience, I must say! What did you like about the trip?

Here are the photos to jolt your memory...

Where do you want to go for our class excursion?

Hi everyone,

During the June Holidays, you will be coming back for supplementary class from 1 Jun to 3 Jun 09, in preparation for the PSLE. In view that you would have worked hard for the SA1 exam, the P6 teachers will be bringing all the pupils out for a class excursion, to a place that the class has chosen, to motivate you further and encourage you to persevere on. The trip will be on 1 Jun (Mon).

I would like all of you to suggest places that you would like me to bring the class to for the excursion. The school would pay $5 for each pupil and also bear the transport cost for booking of the school bus. Any additional cost would be borne by you.

So which place would you like to go to? Pls reply on the class blog. :)

Let's hear from all of you!

Hi Everyone,

The school is holding an intra-level blogging competition in conjunction with Total Defence Day 2009. This year's theme is "What will you defend?"Details of the competition are found in the Powerpoint slides below. Click on each slide and read the details yourself. Make your blog as beautiful, meaning and creative as possible. You can add photos, videos, etc to your blog.

The dateline for this Total Defence blog entry to me is on Friday, 6 February 2009. I will be submitting the best blogs to Mr Yazid by Wednesday, 11 February 2009.

For your info (extracted from http://www.whatwilludefend.sg/):
In commemorating 25 years of Total Defence, the logo has been given a tweak to stay in tune with a more modern feel while retaining its familiar identity. The tagline "It's Personal. Play your Part." is in a handwritten font that emphasises the personal nature of our involvement in Total Defence, reminding Singaporeans that everyone has a role in protecting the Singaporean way of life. The rounder edges of the logo give it a softer touch, reflecting the personal stake in Total Defence and encouraging Singaporeans to embrace Total Defence in their daily lives.

(Yes, I'm sure you've had many people reminding you of it.)On top of that, you have a new form teacher. You've got to start getting to know your teacher and her working style all over again. Over the past two weeks, I 've begun to know some of you better and hopefully more of you in the weeks to come. Remember, I'm with you in every step of the way. So work hard, play hard and success will come your way! :)
