T2W4 Journal Writing: International Friendship Day

Hi everyone,

For this year, the International Friendship Day focused on friendship within ASEAN. Making friends among the countries of ASEAN is important as they are our closest neighbours. For this week, we will reflect on friendship among the people of ASEAN. To help you with your journal writing, I have listed some questions below:

1. Why do we celebrate International Friendship Day?
2. Do you know how International Friendship Day come about?
3. What does ASEAN stand for?
4. What is your knowledge about ASEAN?
Try this game at this website: http://www.ifd2009.com.sg/
5. Do you like the activities organised by the school on International Friendship Day? If not, Why? If 'yes', why?
6. Do you have any friend(s) in the ASEAN countries? Tell us how you get to know him/her.
7. What activities do you think the school should organise to help pupils develop friendship with the ASEAN countries?

This week's entry is to be done on the class blog. :)

  13. We celebrate international friendship day to recognise our friends and the great contribution they make to our lives. This beautiful idea of celebrating Friendship Day was joyfully accepted by several other countries across the world. And today, many countries including India, celebrate the first Sunday of August as Friendship Day every year. Celebrating Friendship Day in a traditional manner, people meet their friends and exchange cards and flowers to honor their friends. Lot many social and cultural organization too celebrate the occasion and mark Friendship Day by hosting programs and get together.Asean stands for Association Of South East Asean Nation.I do not really like the international friendship day activities as they are short and boring.I do not have any friends in ASEAN countries. The school should put more activities like‘Identifying countries and flags’, ‘Making an Olympic Medal’ and ‘Writing an invitation’

  18. We celebrate international friendship day to make friends with other countries and strenghten our ties with them. We need as Singapore is a small country and we cannot survive on our own. We asre able to manage many things by ourselves but we need to depend on other countries for things like water. We buy it from Jorhor, if we do not make friends with that country, we will have to ration our water everyday. We also need to make friends with other countries so that we do not start wars. ASEAN stands Association of South East Asian Nations.I did not exactly enjoy the activities organised on International Friendship Day as it was kind of boring. I didn't even see any of the so called stalls set up around the school. I think the school should put up the stalls near the entrance of the school so that we can see them. The ten countries that formed ASEAN are:1. SIngapore 2. Malaysia 3. Cambodia 4. Laos 5.Thiland 6. Philippines 7. Indonesia 7. Vietnam 8.Brunei 9. Vietnam 10. Myanmar.

  40. This comment is Goldwin's and it is always Goldwin's.

International Friendship Day is important, because (not that it is important but because) we can get along with other countries' nation. Yes, something to do, with "Friendship".

Do you know what's ASEAN? ASEAN stands for:
    A: Association of
    S E: SouthEast
    A: Asia
    N: Nation

So, you should know what's ASEAN now, because of SouthEast Asia. The 10 countries that formed ASEAN:
    1. Singapore
    2. Indonesia (My country)
    3. Malaysia
    4. Thailand
    5. Philippines
    6. Laos
    7. Cambodia
    8. Myanmar
    9. Brunei
    10. Vietnam

I like the activities during the International Friendship Day programme but there is something that can be improved. Because the speaker (who arrives from Java Island) is not the type of person that can speak well (her intonation) but I can say, she speaks better than most of the Singaporeans (in the whole Singapore), since she does not speak Singlish. And one more thing, there is no such word as 'Singlish'.

I have some friends in ASEAN, that is, my father's friend. It's like: My Father's Friend is still my friend. He lived in Singapore but he is an Indonesian.

On Good Friday, my father met his 'After-Secondary' student. Okay, I cannot say too specific of it, because Indonesian format of learning is a lot different from Singapore's (except for Nursery, Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary). You want me to list all, okay I'll do that.

    Indonesian Format:
    TK A: Kindergarten A
    TK B: Kindergarten B
    SD: Primary School
    SMP: Secondary School
    SMA
..... so on and so forth. I don't know the next few ones. But "SMA" is the one that I say about "After-Secondary". Interestiong, right?

The school can invite some foreigners of other countries to visit our school, in Singapore of course! They can talk about their countries and boast about theirs, it's none of my business. But the most important thing is, I must learn something, at least a bit of their cultureor perhaps, language!

Okay, that's the end of the "story".

  42. We celebrate International Friendship Day to have a good friendship with people of other races. ASEAN was found on 8 August 1967. ASEAN stands for Association of South East Asia Nation. The ten countries in ASEAN is Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laso, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam . The ASEAN Declaration states that the aims and purposes of the Association are: (1) to accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region and (2) to promote regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law in the relationship among countries in the region and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter. I do not like the school activities are boring.

Yes.I do have some friends in the ASEAN countries,I came to know them tru online and around my house, like my neighbour their family are Malaysians and they came to leave in singapore for a few years but now they have gone back to Malaysia...
I don't think the activities held in school execpt the concert is fun...well this week we may be able to learn more too...
well we can introduce a project for pupils to find out more about the countries in ASEAN and put it together to form a presentation and we may also award the best team with a prize to encourage them to put in more effort.

That would be fun and educational.I have no friends in the other ASEAN countys other than SIngapore but I have friends from China.
