T1W5 Journal Writing: Target Setting

Hi everyone,

We have set our targets for the various subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue. For this week, I would like you to reflect on this exercise. Here are some questions to guide you in your response:

1. What is the purpose of setting targets for the various subjects?
2. Do you think this is useful? If 'Yes', why? If not, why?
3. How did you go about setting the targets for yourself?
4. What are you doing to help you achieve your target? Do you have a plan? If so, what is it?
5. How are your parents helping you achieve your targets?
6. What will you do to motivate yourself towards achieving the targets?
7. How do you think your teacher/the school can help you achieve the targets?

Looking forward to hearing from all of you! :)

Miss R

  1. For me, the target setting is usful as everytime I get ready for the exams, I get ready for my exams, it makes my go through my work again to make sure that I will get the marks I want and during the exams i will normally feel that lucky i went through again as the questions I went through are usually hard and if I did not revise, I would probably be unable to answer the questions

  3. The purpose is to make surer we strive for our targets. And this is extremely useful, because it is a sign that you really want to achieve the goals!!

I set targets by setting a good target. For example, it is unrealistic for someone who gets 20/100 for Maths and his target is to get full marks. So, for each test, I increase the marks 5 by 5.

A timetable will be good if I need time management. Actually, I need it everyday!!!

My parents told me not to play until PSLE is over. So, study is the only key to reaching my goals, according to my parents.

I can keep studying the 4 important subjects and learn more than the syllabus, especially for English and Chinese!

My teacher can help me achieve my goals by giving me revisions and examinations and tests and practices and....... revisions!

    That's all!

  4. Hiya!! I think target setting is important for every one because it helps to motivate us and helps us to work harder! Yes I think it is useful because it helps us to strive harder. My targets are a little hard to achieve but I will try very hard for it.I have alot of remedials everyday so i think i might achieve them! My parents help me to get a tutor and help me with homework. I think my teacher will help me by giving more homework but it also gives me more stress...but it will help me to get better at studying so it will be ok! Thats all I have to say for now! Thank you for reading!

  5. The main purpose is to be aware of what i want to score for the various subjects.it is useful as we can work for something instead of doing nothing. We must work hard to achieve the goals that we have made so that we can be better next time.

  7. The purpose of having targets for our subjects is to make us believe in ourselves and to remind ourselves too,to strive for our targets and have great success in it.For me,setting targets is not easy...It takes time as i have to study everyday revise our work thoroughly and do whatever work or revision i can to boost our languages and improve our methods of statements in maths and the way of writing in english.if i never study enough,,i may be unable to answer questions that is difficult for me.

  9. The purpose of setting our targets for various subjects is to 1st know what we will try to achieve and after that,we compare our targets and actual marks and see if we have achieved our targets.I think this is useful as it lets you know how far/near are u away from ur targets.Well,I set my targets for all above the range of A,actually I don't think i can get a A* but if i wan to go to good schools, i have to get at least 1.., no 2 A*.All the things that i wan to do to achieve my goals are all in my diary. My parents are helping me find suitable books for revising and to work on my weak points.I think that i juz have to motivate myself to achieve my targets. My teacher can help me by...helping me?

  10. Personally,I think that targets are very important .With targets, we will motivate ourselves to achieve our goals. It also tells us that we have high expectations of ourselves and that we have to work hard, very hard in order to get into our dream school(mine is St. Nicholas Girls!)!!!

  11. Target setting
In school,we set our targets for the four main subjects, english, maths, science and chinese. The targets we set must be relevant and appropriate. In any tests or exams,i will do the best of my ability. In our handbook page 19,it is about the targets we want to set which will be based on our previous results.(sa2)

  15. The purpose of setting our targets for various sudjects is to tell us to work towards the marks that we had set to achieve it .I think this is useful .I do my target setting by looking at my last year result .By achieving my targets ,for science I will try to find more information about it. For mathematics I will do assesment books to improve my maths .For english I will read more story books .Thats all I have to say !!

  20. heys! :D

Target setting is important. It is useful in the sense that it makes us work towards our goals. I never thought about setting targets and working towards them but i did think about how much i wanted to get for my previous exams. Yes, i have a plan. I would study more frequently, ask if i do not know how to do my work or if i do not understand and practise more on the subjects which i am weaker at. I would not set a time table as everyday i may have to do something else and the time table would not really be accurate and useful. I would plan my time to give myself time to study and also some time to relax and do what ever i want. The teacher may be able to help the us, the students, to ask them questions more frquently and explain to us if we do not understand. That way, acheiving our goals would be simpler! :D

  21. The purpose is to let us know remember our targets & let us work towards it.It works!I always have targets. To achieve my targets,i have to work hard,be attentive in class & score!

  22. I think it is important to have a target because if we do not have target our life will be boring.I will try to achieve my goals!

  23. I Think Target Setting Is Useful As We Don't Know What Marks We Want To Aim For.
IF We Know, We Will Have Something To Strive And Aim For.IF We Aim And Strive Hard For Our Goals We Will Achive It.So I Think Target Setting Is Important.
I Am Going To Study And Work Hard Throughout The Year For PSLE And I Must Achieve My Goal.

My Teacher Can Help By Giving Us More Revisions OR Test Papers To Work On. xD

  28. The purpose of setting targets is to have a goal in life and achieve them. I do think this is useful as if we do not set targets for ourselves, life would be dull and meaningless as we do not have to work towards anything to achieve our goals! I usually set small targets for each day like having full marks for one exercise in my Maths workbook or getting one sticker in a day. I sometimes read books to improve my English or read the textbooks to increase my knowledge on the subject. I do have a plan. After the CA1 test, I would want to know my results and work harder after I have known roughly what I am better in or weaker in. My parents are helping me by buying assessments reminding me to revise or check my work. I think my teacher in the school can teach me how to do questions that I am not clear about.
