T2W9 Journal Writing: Influenza A H1N1

Hi everyone,

We now have two cases of the Influenza A H1N1 in Malaysia. How much do you understand about this virus? For this week, I would like you to reflect on this topic. To help you, I will list some questions below:

1. What is Influenza A H1N1?
2. How does it spread?
3. Which countries in Asia have people with Influenza A H1N1?
4. How do countries try to prevent the spread of this disease?
5. Do you think the taking of temperature is effective in preventing Influenza A H1N1? Why?
6. What other preventive measures are being taken to combat the spread of this disease in Singapore?
7. What are you doing to prevent the spread of Influenza A H1N1 disease?

  1. I have heard that H1M1 spreads by touch, but even if I know how it spreads, I cannot really prevent it. Everyday, im touching things around me and I do not make it a point to wash hands regularly, and it is hard to make it a habbit now. But, I try to make my trips out short and do not visit my family members who have gone overseas. At first, I did not really klike to do the H1M1 prevention measures as it was like additional work, but, now, I feel the need to wash my hands when I am at home and it is irritating if I do not do so.

  2. H1N1 is a flu spreading around the world. It spreads by affected countries you go to eg:Australia, United States of America and Mexico.Taking of temperature is effective in preventing H1N1 because it will prevent more cases of the diseases.Do not go to crowded places. I am taking temperatures two times in school.

  3. Influenza A is actually flu that got in contact with pigs.It spreads by air contact.I think the countries are Japan,Mexico,Thailand,Malaysia, etc.Countries try to avoid it by keeping the infected people in room as that no one can enter.I think it can prevent it as we will know who might have it as fever is a symtom.I think they check the people coming in from the airport.I am staying at home almost everyday to prevent it from spreading. bye!!!^>^

  4. Hi world,

About Influenza A H1N1, I know that it used to be called "Swine Flu". But now, It is a horrible disease that has been spread to almost the entire Earth!
I heard that H1N1 is being spread through the immunity system. If someone immuntiy system was low, He would have a high chance to get H1N1.
I knwo that S'pore has H1N1 now, the number of cases has reached a high number of 900+!
The countries try to ask most pupils to take the temperature and most people get quaratined and will be asked to see a doctor immediately!
No as we do not get a fever immmediately as when the diesease is spreading.
I am taking temperatures and I will wash my hands before and after meals.( In fact after coming out of the lavatory.)

Almost the whole of asia as of 29th June has at least 1 confirmed case of H1N1. Tempreture taking tempreature important and effecticve as fever is a symptom of H1N1. To prevent H1N1, I cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing and sneezing.

  6. Influenza A infection is contagious. People with infection may be able to spread the flu virus a day before the symptoms appear and up to a week following the onset of illness. People who develop respiratory illness with fever should put on a surgical mask and seek medical consultation immediately.

  8. I know that more than 70 countries are now reporting cases of human infection with H1N1 flu and it spreads mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people. I don't think that taking temperature is very effective as some people who have just gotten the diesease will not have a fever and pass it on during this period.
